Precon Upgrades

Upgrade your Commander preconstructed deck with community-validated swap suggestions.

What Are Precon Upgrades?

Preconstructed (precon) Commander decks are a great starting point, but most players want to improve them over time. Grimoria's Precon Upgrade tool shows you exactly which cards to swap out and what to replace them with, based on community data from thousands of players.

How to Use It

1. Go to Deckbuilder > Precon Upgrade

2. Browse available precon decks grouped by set — Collector's Edition variants are listed separately where they exist

3. Select the precon you own

4. Review the suggested swaps — each one shows the card to remove and its recommended replacement

The Three Views

• Original — The precon as printed
• Swaps — Every suggested cut → add pair
• Resulting — The full 99 after your chosen swaps, with per-card suggestions for further tuning

Refining the Swaps

Each swap can be adjusted:

• Pin — Lock a cut → add pair so it survives a regenerate
• Discard — Drop that replacement; the freed slot re-matches to the next-best card
• Replace — Pick a different card from colour-legal alternatives

Each swap shows the card out, the card in, the replacement's price and a synergy score for how well it works with your commander.

Budget Control

You can filter suggestions by budget to keep upgrades affordable. The total upgrade cost is shown so you can plan your purchases.

Quick Actions

From the upgrade page you can:

• Save as deck — Create a deck idea with all your chosen upgrades applied, and optionally record the precon's cards in your collection at the same time
• Add to wishlist — Add replacement cards you don't own to a wishlist
• Check your collection — See which upgrade cards you already own

Data Source

Upgrade recommendations come from EDHREC community data, reflecting what thousands of Commander players actually play. Suggestions are regularly updated as the meta evolves.
